Features of Our Institute
A new collaborative digital course, “Introduction to Medical Science,” developed through a strategic partnership between National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU), Taipei Veterans General Hospital (Taipei VGH), and the New Taipei City Education Department, has officially been released. Scheduled for implementation in New Taipei City high schools starting in the first semester of the 2025 academic year, the course integrates higher education resources, clinical expertise, and secondary education needs to provide students with a unique opportunity to explore the medical field.
Expert Contributions from Our Faculty
From our Department of Physiology, Prof. Chi-Chang Juan (阮琪昌), Prof. Yuan-I Chang (張原翊), and Prof. Chien-Hsu Chen (簡千栩) have been deeply involved in the curriculum planning and content recording. Leveraging their physiological expertise, they have helped ensure the curriculum spans foundational medicine, clinical practice, public health, and smart healthcare. Our faculty team remains committed to the advancement of physiology education, actively promoting the popularization of medical knowledge through innovative teaching methods that guide students toward a profound understanding of medicine.
Course Highlights
The “Introduction to Medical Science” digital course features several distinctive elements:
Elite Design: Co-developed by over 20 professors from the NYCU College of Medicine and physicians from Taipei VGH.
Accessible Learning: Hosted on the ewant Open Education Platform, making high-quality resources readily available.
Collaborative Pedagogy: Developed in partnership with New Taipei City high school teaching teams to ensure lesson plans are tailored specifically for high school students.
Case-Based Learning: The curriculum covers diverse real-world medical cases—including COVID-19, teenage pregnancy, child abuse, Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL), High-Altitude Pulmonary Edema (HAPE), substance abuse, ventricular fibrillation, and stroke—allowing students to investigate disease etiology, diagnosis, and treatment from multiple perspectives.
Future Outlook
To further enhance the classroom application of this digital resource, NYCU and the New Taipei City Education Department will host a curriculum seminar for high school teachers to exchange insights. Moving forward, our institute will continue to support the development of digital medical education and participate in interdisciplinary collaborations to deepen and popularize medical knowledge.
We cordially invite all faculty and students interested in medical education to follow these developments and join us in witnessing this new milestone in the digitalization of medical education!
