Our Distinctive Strengths
Our institute currently boasts a diverse faculty spanning both clinical and basic science disciplines. By integrating clinical practice with foundational research, we are better positioned to lead the institute toward our core mission and educational objectives. Since our inception, these goals have been aligned with the overarching developmental spirit of the university, while remaining adaptable to the evolving trends and challenges of the global environment. In recent years, we have actively recruited top-tier talent and experts from both domestic and international pools, strengthening our academic capacity to undertake teaching missions and cultivate outstanding scholars.
The unique characteristics of our institute can be categorized into the following four key pillars:
I. Academic Fields
Our faculty possesses multi-disciplinary expertise in physiology, including cardiovascular, respiratory, gastrointestinal, metabolic, renal, and signal transduction systems. Covering nearly all major subfields of physiology, this comprehensive scope represents one of our primary competitive advantages compared to other institutions.
II. Research
Our research initiatives are strategically divided into three major categories: Organismal Research, Clinical Medical Research, and Molecular Biology Research. In the post-genomic era, molecular biology plays a particularly pivotal role. By synergizing these three research domains, we aim to maximize the impact and efficacy of our scientific contributions.
III. Education & Teaching
Given that the Yangming Campus of National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU) is centered on medical knowledge, we have progressively expanded our biomedical programs to cultivate and highlight next-generation talent in medical professions and cutting-edge fields. Our institute stands out in its ability to retain high-level foundational talent within Taiwan. Many of our graduates pursue advanced studies or postdoctoral research abroad; however, the majority choose to return to their homeland after gaining international experience, eager to contribute their expertise to Taiwan. Our alumni are active across various sectors, including biotechnology, academia, and clinical medicine. This cycle of talent cultivation not only addresses the demand for professionals but also generates greater research momentum for industries and academic fields influenced by physiology.
IV. Mission
Following the formal merger of National Yang Ming University and National Chiao Tung University in February 2021, the field of Physiology remains a cornerstone of our specialized expertise. Through the expansion of teaching and research resources resulting from this merger, our institute now benefits from a more diverse faculty and increased research funding. We are committed to excelling in the global physiological community, achieving a “one plus one is greater than two” synergistic effect.
